About: The Siskiyou County Amateur Radio Association, also known as SCARA, is a group of amateur radio operators located in Siskiyou County, California, and the surrounding areas.
Location: Siskiyou County is located in the middle of far northern California, just next to the Oregon border. The Interstate 5 freeway runs through the center of our area, and Mount Shasta, the second highest volcano on the west coast, is our best-known attraction. Siskiyou County includes the cities and towns of Yreka, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Dunsmuir, McCloud, & Tulelake as well as Butte Valley, Scott Valley, Shasta Valley, & the Klamath River Corridor.
Meetings: A monthly meeting is held the first Saturday of each month. Be sure to check our Events Calendar each month to verify location. Our meetings are informal, and visitors (both hams and non-hams) are always welcome.
Net: A weekly net is conducted every Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. on the SCARA repeater system. A roll call is conducted of “active” members and then visitors are invited to check in.
Amateur Radio Newsline: The Amateur Radio Newsline bulletin is broadcast on the SCARA repeater system on Fridays at 7:30 p.m.
More info: Check out the different links listed at the top of this page for more information. Our Reference Files page contains items such as 2-meter simplex frequencies, phonetic alphabet, common Q-signals, band plan charts, and more. If you are interested in obtaining or upgrading an amateur radio operator’s license, be sure to check out our License Testing page.
Events: And finally, be sure to regularly check out our Events Calendar for the latest updates.

AUXCOMM USA NET THURSDAYS AT 8PM CENTRAL/6PM PACIFIC
The person (Auxiliary Communicator) and the Incident Command System (ICS) position are used to provide auxiliary communications. Trained Auxiliary Communicators (AUXC) are a valuable communications resource tool that can be used by local, county, regional, tribal or state agencies/organizations. Auxiliary Communications (AUXCOMM) is an all-inclusive term used to describe the many organizations that provide various types of communications support to emergency management, public safety, and other government agencies or describes the services themselves. This includes, but is not limited to amateur radio, military radio, citizens band radio (CB), etc....
AuxComm USA promotes training to help volunteers meet prerequisites for more advanced training by state and federal agencies, trains volunteers in various modes and techniques of emergency communications, and is a ready resource for emergencies or disasters when our assistance is needed.
AuxComm USA is a Presidential Award winning 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization
ALROTA-8 (513258) EVERY SUNDAY AT 5:30 (pst) SKYWARN YOUTH NET
This Net provides valuable training for young amateur radio operators by helping them learn how to handle on-air traffic, by introducing them to different geographic locations and names here in the United States and throughout the world, and by encouraging awareness about basic weather facts and current and upcoming weather conditions.
We meet every Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Central Time via participating amateur radio repeaters and worldwide digital Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks.
All hams of all ages throughout the world are encouraged to check in and help give valuable experience to the young hams who host these weekly nets.
If there are no local on-air repeaters in your area carrying the Skywarn Youth Net, you can always join us via VoIP.
If you own/operate an on-air repeater and you would like to carry the Skywarn Youth Net on it, feel free to connect via one of our VoIP networks. You do not need prior permission to connect in. However, if you plan for your repeater to be a regular affiliate, please let us know so that we can add you to our listings on this website and so that we can add your geographical area to our Net Script.
ALL ARES, RACES, SKYWARN, OES TRAINED GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED.
Our ALROTA platforms and hubs are designed to provide a powerful ALLSTAR Hub for our Amateur Radio friends to connect each other for NETS and emergency communications. ALROTA does also host its own nets such as the SoundOff net, aka a radio check net. ALROTA has six hubs for general everyday connections and three emergency hubs used for linking of systems who have Allstar linking capabilities during national and natural emergencies such as Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Tornados etc.
Current hubs available:
In times of crisis and natural disasters, amateur radio is often used as a means of emergency communication when wireline, cell phones and other conventional means of communications fail.
Unlike commercial systems, amateur radio is usually independent of terrestrial facilities that can fail. It is dispersed throughout a community without "choke points" such as cellular telephone sites that can be overloaded.
Amateur radio operators are experienced at improvising antennas and power sources and most equipment today can be powered by an automobile battery. Annual "Field Days" are held in many countries to practice these emergency improvisational skills. Amateur radio operators can use hundreds of frequencies and can quickly establish networks tying disparate agencies together to enhance interoperability. For those Amateur radio operators and systems who have Allstar Linking capabilities, ALROTA can provide them with a ONE-STOP Hub to connect to during national events, needing emergency communication. Also, during these events, other clubs/groups can connect in "Monitor only mode" to avoid overloading event organizers with unnecessary two-way traffic.
I have no specialties. What I do have is a passion for the hobby. I have the vision of what is needed and the motivation/drive to excite those involved in the hobby to think outside of the box.
